is Reader in Text Mining in the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester and Director of the UK National Centre for Text Mining (NaCTeM). Her current research includes building bio-resources, annotated corpora, advanced IR systems, linking text to pathways, and text mining for systematic reviews.
In 2004, she received the Daiwa Adrian prize for her research in Knowledge Mining for Biology, and in 2006 and 2007 she was awarded the IBM UIMA innovation award for her work on the inter-operability of text-mining tools. She has authored more than 130 papers and in 2006 she was the editor of the first book on text mining for biology and biomedicine.
